axpand Label - Automatic Text Placement with axpand

axpand Label provides automatic text placement as a critical step in the automated cartographic production process. axpand Label can be configured according to map-making requirements and easily adjusted for all map scales. axpand Label automatic text placement can be integrated as a critical, time-saving step in the map production production process following automatic generalization and/ or interactive editing.

The following examples show typical cartographic requirements for text placement and their implementation using axpand Label.

Each example on the left shows the requirements for label placement. Each example on the right shows the results of the requirement in axpand.

Text placement on a mid-point in an area with a dominating angle.           Example of text placed with a dominating angle in a water area.

This example shows the requirement for text placement inside a closed polygon. The text is placed in the best position inside the polygon.

Here the requirement is to find an appropriate placement of text outside of a polygon when there is not enough space inside the polygon.

Lines can be labelled across the entire object. On the left is the requirement, on the right the result.

On the left an example of a requirement for rotation along lines. On the right, the result in axpand.

The example on the left shows text manually placed along a line with a curve. On the right, the text is automatically placed.

In the example below, text is placed along a line with a Y offset.

Point objects can be labelled using a configuration of either 4 or 8 best possible positions. On the right, an example of automatic point labels in axpand.
