Axes Systems Recognized with Top 3 on Demand Innovation Prize

Small- and medium-sized companies build the backbone of most economies in the world. For this reason, IT system solutions that allow small- and medium-sized companies to function optimally within their time and budget limits are more and more critical. Since 2004 the German ‘Initiative Mittelstand’ (initiative for small- and medium-sized businesses)  has been providing information about the best systems available for small- to medium-sized companies enabling them to make informed decisions about solutions for their needs. This year over 2000 applications were received for recognition in 34 categories and analyzed by a jury of 60 scientists, IT experts and journalists. Prof. Dr. Günter-Ulrich Tolkiehn, a jury member makes this statement: “Innovation means creating something useful, which hasn’t been heard of until now.” Axes Systems’ axpand cartography solution was designated a Top 3 IT innovation for small- and medium-sized companies in 2011. axpand offers an automated and economical solution for map-makers and providers of geo-information.

axpand’s data base technology is unique on the market. The software enables Axes Systems’ customers - cartographic publishers as well as national and regional government agencies and their service partners – to cover the entire production process in one, integrated process. Complex production processes such as the production and updating of civil and military digital topographic maps in any scale and context are automated in axpand in an ‘out-of-the-box’ process using the base topographic data from the geographic information systems in place. axpand’s functionality allows for personalized map products for end customers directly from one data base in its ‘on Demand’ solution. Alongside traditional printed maps the map-maker has the possibility of distributing through web and mobile channels directly from axpand. axpand also enables the integration of outsourcing and company partners as well as map users for data maintenance and feedback. This possibility for collaboration over the net is also known as ‘crowd-sourcing’ and is an intregal part of Web 2.0 technologies.
